It's actually rather interesting to read up on these sirens. They were powered by a V8 hemi
(around 180HP) and the sound traveled for ~30 miles.
I love it how the siren drowns out the V8 going full bore within a couple of seconds. I've heard
a straight-6 idle with no exhaust and that was loud as all hell. This would rip your very soul in
half.
