Tomoya collects "lights" as he helps people overcome their problems and find closure. When enough

In the game it makes more sense to me. You have to replay the game several times and grant
everyone's wishes before you can do Nagisa's After Story. Then you have to play After Story at
least twice through before you can grant everyone's wishes.
The way I look at it - Tomoya was able to live the same period of time over several times and
make different choices each time which lead to different endings. Once he granted everyone's
wishes he was able to have his own granted - to live with his wife and daughter.
Also Tomoya is that little robot and the girl is Ushio.
