That's no massage.
That's what's called "kneading". Cats do it on soft surfaces and objects, like blankets or
clothes for example. What they do is extend their claws and press into and out of the object of
their kneading. This is superficially similar to a massage when performed on another animal, but
the intent is completely different. Cats knead for their own benefit; it recalls memories of
breastfeeding, when they would do this to their mother's breasts to stimulate milk flow. Even in
adulthood, this makes them very, very happy cats. While the origin of this behavior is unclear,
it's thought to be triggered by a cat's breastfeeding prematurely ending.
Needless to say, this is not a massage! This can be very bad; cat's claws are very sharp, and
while the fur might absorb most of the kneading, wounds can result, likely followed up by
infection.
Fortunately, this cat has died horribly, so that's not a concern.

As a vet, I've actually seen this behavior a lot. It's worth noting that cats knead before mating
as well... also, you'll note that the live cat begins to try to mount and actually gives a couple
tentative humps to the corpse.
