Looks like it's working out perfectly for them.

can someone explain wtf is going on in this?
it can't be air pressure differential, could it?

Well, the sheer air pressure would have to knock him down because Styrofoam builds up a lot of
air resistance. The velocity no one took into account how the door didn't ricochet after being
slammed open or the fact that he was holding on to the door at the time giving a likely
possibility that he'd be propelled diagonally rather than straight back. and the fact that there
was an awkward freeze frame right before impact

Huh. Never watched closely enough to notice the cut before.
I suppose they may have been semi reasonable and taken a moment to have the target prepare.

the door has a door-stopper, another reason is the reflected air-blast on his body after the
actual hit keeping it in place even better ( you can see the shelf reacting to it ), that's why
it isn't ricocheting and he's just holding on to the door in a grasp around the frame because he
was going to close it behind him so he isn't holding on to a handle or anything.
and the styrofoam obviously wasn't intended to be the primary force-carrier, perhaps they just
intended to blast him with styrofoam and not launch him right into the lockers on the other side
of the room.
the freeze-frame might be there so people watching it have time to actually see what's going on.
This is all speculations though.
