But is Colonol Kurtz really a villain? - That's kind of the central point of the whole film, if
he's the only one who does what is necessary and without hesitation; is Kurtz really a man to be
lamented? Are the powers that be more insidious in their methodology and capacity for cruelty
than one who is honest and righteous in his cause. The generals and politicians couldn't relegate
the conflict to suit their own needs or keep appearances the way they needed to be, so they
liquidate the agitator. I'm not sure in the scope of the film if its believable to view Kurtz as
a villain - in comparison to those who sent the Captain to kill him in the first place, didn't
they have a more wanton disregard for life?

The crisis surrounding Colonel Kurtz is what makes him such an interesting "villain."
I love this video so much. The scenes they use to portray the characters works so well with the
music. They seem so deep, even if they were simple in their original movie.

He's obviously the antagonist of the film, along with the jungle and its dangers, but that word
isn't interchangeable with 'villain'

Go read the original heart of darkness by Joseph Conrad, it was great.
In my opinion that original was more of an expression of imperialism and a commentary on what
defines humanity.
