The main problem with the Soviets, and with most of the other Communist regimes/movements, is
that they were *massively* over-militarized. Every industrial effort first went to the army, and
every social sentiment first went to national security. The mistake is assuming that this is all
an inherent byproduct of Communism itself - Funding social programs at the expense of the
ultra-wealthy doesn't automatically lead to mass killings, as Europe and Canada can demonstrate.

The problem is that the Communists were on the permanent losing side of a seventy-year war
against the most powerful empires on Earth, and thus felt threatened enough to justify anything,
and paranoid enough to do it. The question isn't how many bodies it takes for Communism to be
successful, it's how much physical and economic security. Because believe me, if the Soviets had
the economic upper hand over Africa, South Asia, and South America, and Europe and the US had
nothing, the two superpowers would be singing a very different tune. Think first world commies on
one side, and McCarthyism with bullets on the other.

It really doesn't matter what economic/political system you have. If you give fuckheads power, it
can be abused and people can be killed as a result. Who actually gets killed depends on what
decisions are made and the deaths reported depends on how power over people is done. The history
in textbooks could very well be true, falsified, or mixed with truth and lies but don't let what
you're taught in books be the all-conclusive facts for you just because everyone accepts them.
Find out for yourself the truth if you have the means. There is no such thing as "a book cannot
lie" even textbooks.
