It´s a very cursory view on borders and there are tons of inaccuracies. Sometimes it shows
control of an area no matter how short, sometimes it doesn´t.
Also this is largely at times where there were no "real" borders so i wouldn´t put too much
thought into it.

Actually, I don't think the mongols forced the people they conquered to change their language.
Actually, they pretty much let the territories under their control just do their own thing. They
even open a new district in their capitol to act as an embassy and spread culture. That's not
ignoring the whole "make piles of baby skulls and pour silver in people's ears for fear factor"
thing, but besides that they were pretty cool dudes.
