What is the exact series this is from? There are like...numerous iterations but this one was my
favorite.

Whenever I see this intro I remember an old online review that thought Tenchi Muyo was edgy and
atheist because it meant No Need for Heaven.

It's the Tenchi OVA 1 intro
Man, I love this nostalgia trip. I'm glad I have the OVA collection on BD/DVD. Too good not to
buy. Plus it came with a neat little art book.
Just so you know the continuity. (There's a whole multiverse thing):
Tenchi OVA 1 + 2 + 3 -> Tenchi GXP -> War on Geminar
Tenchi Universe -> Tenchi the Movie: Tenchi in Love -> Tenchi Forever: Tenchi in Love 2
Random spinoffs that are not part of the 2 canons:
Tenchi in Tokyo, Tenchi the Movie 2: Daughter of Darkness

>I remember an old online review that thought Tenchi Muyo was edgy and atheist because it meant
No Need for Heaven.
It just means "No need for Tenchi". There's no religious subtext.

In then the Ryo-Ohki arc comes in and makes Tenchi an omnipotent god.
