Well, if you have ever played Yume-Nikki, she is a girl seperated from humanity for some
ambiguous reason, whose presence in the real world is nothing more than a dim room and patio and
a single eccentric game to play. The only thing she has to live for is to dream, and although her
dreams are grand, intimate, and detailed, they are also anywhere from mildly dreary to morbidly
disturbing to eldritch. That is, even if she is in this depressed, drugged state, she can at
least feel something, which the physical world does not allow her.
I think she is a symbol for the worst-off NEETs, the "Welcome to the NHK" tier NEETs. People who
are completely removed from society, who have no ambition, who cannot even consider about the
future besides its troubles and uncertainties, and therefore only live for the present and
remorsefully recall the past, and who are only slightly better than dead. I mean if you really
want to know such people, just go to Wizardchan.

Ok, think of it this way. Someone has locked you in a room with minimal furniture without a
computer, without books, without any source of entertainment except for a gameboy with some
nonsensical game. You also have a dream journal. There are three things you can do: you can
dream, you can play the game, and technically you can engage in mental exercises and manipulate
the furniture, although the last option will get tiring very quickly. How are you going to live
the rest of your life?

In the game Yume-Nikki (Dream Journal), the game which you control the girl in the flash, you end
up endlessly exploring the depths of your own mind, the apathetic, the disturbed, and the few
nice bits, and once you completely assess yourself and "win," after an indefinite period of time,
you commit suicide. Although there are no mentions of drugs in the game, if they were there it
would only allow the girl to pass the time awake, as represented by the background noise in the
flash. Drugs are not as powerful as one likes to imagine; they can only amplify and inhibit
senses. Even if she had the drugs, she would still have committed suicide, as that is her only
true escape.

Now, a 4chan NEET (unemployed dependent. think of /jp/) has several luxuries that the girl does
not have. He has his computer, through which he can access almost unlimited entertainment, and
can make transient friends over many communities and countries. With this, he can be satisfied
just enough to where an "escape" from his room/mindset is not a pressing issue, avoiding the
conflict from which the girl suffers. More importantly, the NEET does have alternatives, although
harsh ones, to his life. Finally, most NEETs have somebody with whom they associate. A leech
needs blood, after all. For the NEET, escape does not necessarily equate to suicide.

But many feelings are common, and this empathy elicits sympathy for both the girl and those who
are familiar with being stuck in this situation. The ennui of being contained in one room, your
mental and physical assets going to waste, and your time on this planet ticking away, but being
unable to take the first step to reformation is one of these feelings. Another is the slow
breakdown of one's connection with humanity; after spending months cooped up without speaking,
even communication becomes a challenge. I could go deeper with this, like how culturally sterile
the world of Yume-Nikki is, etc. but to cut it short, the expected audience of this game and this
flash will be all too familiar with her apathy and feel a great remorse from the familiarity.
That is what I mean, M8.
