Why? I don't even like /a/, and from what I can tell, Gurren Lagann is baby's first Mecha anime,
which isn't exactly a bad thing. I'm just saying Gurren Lagann's good among anime's standards, or
at least better than Shitgeki.

I wouldn't really say that. Gundam is THE Mecha Anime, the one that gave birth to an entirely new
category of Anime (or at least made it popular)
I didn't know the homage detail, so I apologize for that, but TTGL is still pretty good even
then. Kamina's speeches are the single most memorable thing about it, and I'd say those are
pretty original in their own right
