Shapeless tentacle monsters aren't a Lovecraft exclusive. Any child can imagine one. Medusa
predates Lovecraft by millenia; he didn't invent the whole theme of being unable to look at
things.
So in any case, it is possible to draw inspiration in the same things that Lovecraft did, without
being actually inspired by Lovecraft's work. It happens every day. Many people call that
phenomenon "reinventing the wheel".
