One thing that did make sense was that women expect more out of a guy than guys expect out of
women. Youre likely never going to get an 100% ideal mate and will eventually have to compromise
somewhere. Women in their 20s are very scrub like and dont want to compromise when likely, other
men have made that compromise just to be with them. So when they hit their 30s, they end up
settling because no one else will go after them.
She never really elaborates on why men are less willing to get hitched when a lot of the things
she says would indicate otherwise.

well as she says the value to men of being married has decreased in a social context. So there is
less of a motivation to get married and have children, as that course of action doesn't have as
much value as it once did. She also points out that there's a high risk to it, specially from
divorce. A man losing a chunk of his paycheck and/or his children can have a huge hit on his ego,
making him feel less of a man.
one way to view it is the high risk (divorce)/ low reward (social view) of marriage, where we
aren't getting enough out of it to do it. needless to say the conflicting social viewpoint that
men are expected to marry a woman, but still by marrying her he doesn't get much respect after
the fact, seen as goofy men. So many father characters nowadays are stupid/horrible.

What I understood was that marriage was no longer offering a positive male identity, the role of
father and husband had been replaced with something gender neutral. In a way, she's right about
that. Respect is worth far more than most people realize, especially in a time and place where
you don't have to work to live and be moderately happy. The only reason to work today is to be
admired for your skills and determination.
This chick is pretty smart but I think she'd do herself some good to get out of the ivory tower
and not focus on gender issues for a while. The whole field needs a scientific revolution and a
return to positivism or people are gonna just keep basing their claims and deductions on unproven
ideas.

men are working for the social aspect. before, becoming a man meant you would get a job, support
a family, house, blah blah blah. Now, the definition of man is becoming less important, which is
why the subject of the work place was brought up. now, that view is receding into this culture of
equality and masculinity (I don't quite agree on all of this, but it's still an interesting view
to examine).
A lot of guys are just working to get by, not to achieve some dream, even if that dream is in
