u a button smasher? is the main way to start at any character, as you get used to the range of
its kicks and punches. no shame in that.
you start to build up strategies and before you know it, you rather some kind of combos rather
than others and do choices aware of the options etc
that is how u git gud in fight games

I don't button mash, I just can't seem to grasp when is a good time to do a certain combo. By the
time I realized that I got a hit in, it's too late to use my launcher, and they just hit me in
the face for their full combo.

Just mash out a chain of normals (LP->LK->MP->MK->HP->HK) to buy time while your brain processes
the hitconfirm, normals are typically pretty safe. As soon as you react to the hit/block, either
launch or stop.
