We talked about this at length in my art history class back in college.
The biggest problem with post modernist art is that there is no context to draw from. The viewer
is supposed to draw their own conclusions about what they're seeing based on their own
experiences for the most part nothing is truly conveyed.
The artists want you to experience how they are feeling without knowing anything about them from
the get-go. And while, yes, there is some rather impressive technical skill that is shown, it's
completely lost in translation, making it meaningless to everyone except the artist themselves.
Our professor compared shit like this to a chef having a pantry full of the best ingredients
possible with years of experience under their belt and just grabbing fist fulls of random stuff,
mashing it in a bowl and expecting people to eat it because it's "visionary and expressive" while
in reality it's a waste of perfectly good talent and resources.
