It's shounenshit, that's what it is. Whether you like it or not, is your opinion, but saying it's
entry-level shounenshit filled with typical shounenshit cliches (e.g impulsive and brooding
protagonist, forced drama, illogical plot) is a legitimate criticism.

At one point, anime tried interesting shit and sometimes really pushed some awesome themes that
are still, to this day, considered hallmarks of good shit. Akira is an easy example of this, but
Dominion Tank Police also comes to mind. Ghost in the Shell (the original movie anyways).
Robotech and Gundam. All of these had themes and stories that, though considered dated, were
played out so well and with such finesse, they became classics. You don't find that sort of thing
anymore. Generic big eyed animu girl turns into white haired generic animu girl and is super
powered. That's really, well, uninteresting bullshit.
