Just rewatched the opening.
If its accurate to the "animation" style of the show.
They made models with fairly okay textures using the same style of anime-based vidya.
And I don't enjoy that style of animation.
It comes off as lazy to me, and much prefer hand-drawn 2d animation.

Arc 1: Gore is taken out, not censored, some of it is removed, longer scenes are condensed.
Arc 2: One of the characters acts slighty different (swears less), a short scene is removed

The reason you are seeing increased use of 3d animation along side what are usually traditional
2d animation is that its cheaper to create a model of something and plug it back in because it
takes less time and therefore less effort. And the only reason studios don't transition to
completely to 3d animation of this style is because it doesn't look as good traditional and isn't
up to par with the quality of 2d.
tl;dr: theirs a reason its cheaper than 2d,
time=effort, less effort=lazy.
Whether it looks as good or not is a matter of opinion.
