To be fair, That cashier was probably going off of the retail training that tells you not to do
anything to shoplifters or vandals except for calling the police. It's really fuckin' stupid. The
reasonable thing to do is just grab the little fucker by the ear and toss him out. But some
places will actually fire you for going against the training because they're so afraid of being
"The place some guy got shanked by a shoplifter". If I had a shitty retail job and had to choose
between protecting anything in the store and my paycheck, I'd probably go for the paycheck, It's
not like tubby was actually capable of hurting anyone. May even get some kind of hazard bonus or
some shit.

A store worker might be completely within their rights to do that, but HR/corporate doesn't want

said. Where I work employees are made to sign an agreement that says everyone below the acting
store manager is not to confront or apprehend shoplifters or jackoffs like this kid. Which of
course means that by the time anything meaningful is done, the offender is usually long gone. But
that's retail for you, and I for one ain't gonna go out of my way for what I'm being paid.
