The problem is that the average american citizen is ignorant. For them the steel is either melted
or rigid. Anyone with any form of education, or any european with elementary school behind them
can tell you about a thing called plastic deformation.
For example, it's what steel under stress does more easily when it's heated to glowing.
If you have a gas- or briquette-fired bbq grill, you can test this yourself at home with any
piece of steel.
