They test the emergency weather broadcast system near my house almost monthly. And there's always
>severe thunderstorm warning
>severe snowstorm warning
>high winds
It's gotten to the point where I immediately ignore it and shut the tv off, because I've been
watching for too long when that comes on.

When I was growing up, I heard the air-raid test sirens, and this emergency broadcast tests, they
were always pants shitting scary to me, no matter how old i get, I feel as though impending doom
is coming.

I had a false alarm once, while on duty in Alaska in the 1980s, we thought that a nuke was coming
on our base, we prepared for the worse but thankfully the alert was lifted, NORAD had a false
positive on a launch and had to double check it stations, for 30 minutes we thought we were all
going to die. There is a reason some of this shit is pant shitting scary to us.

Not him, but there's three documented cases of this happening. Once on November 9, 1979, when
someone ran a test program in "live" mode, and twice within the span of a few days in June 1980
due to computer failure.

>Russia also had a number of idiotic incidents that almost led to the extinction of mankind.
It might just be a rumor/propaganda, but I hear that several old USSR missile systems can't be
taken off line because they were set up to be tamper proof but the Russians didn't think they
would ever need to take them off line.

Okay good. If you had said koolis, I'd have pffftttt your ass outta here.
Something I gotta wonder, if a nuke from the 80s were to have hit fort rich, how much of
anchorage would be devastated?
I mean certainly all of downtown would be lost.
Certain sections around valley of the moon would be hit, but others might be spared because it's
a big ditch.

actually nevermind. What's now kinkaid park and the airport would likely be hit as a secondary
target, and that would likely fry the rest of the town except for maybe shit on the mountains.
