  In order to properly simulate troops movement in a nuclear battlefield, the soldiers must be
  armed and have to carry all the gear they would carry on a real battlefield..

  Trivia: on these exercises (check Desert Rock), radiations level were so high they had to halt
  the exercices before they could be completed.
