Long-ass interpretation:
This work is open to interpretation of symbolism. The pane of glass could be symbolism for
anything that could put two lovers apart. Parents could be an example (Romeo and Juliet, Pyramus
and Thisbe, etc.), or perhaps the wall of glass is a social issue. Furthermore, the act of
cutting off her hand could be a gesture of dedication, guilt, or insanity. Perhaps she saw that
he hurt himself for her, so she did the same. Perhaps she felt guilty about him hurting himself
(although I find it unlikely). Or perhaps she did so out of insanity- like Van Gogh- severing a
limb and presenting it as a gift of sorts. Maybe even a combination of these things.
Heh, sorry if that was a little long-winded... I'm just sitting here fascinated with this little
flash and musing to myself. Maybe I was over-analyzing this, but hey, what's the problem with
that?
