What a shittily balanced game. Becomes impossible to keep your mercs alive around day 9, and
impossible to progress once hick zombies show up

Just be more careful with your barriers. If you can find a spot where you have a wall (or drop)
behind you so that zombies can only come at you from one way, it's winnable. Just keep yourself
and two mercs behind your barriers, hold the E key down while touching the barrier so it
constantly regens, and fire away with whatever you have. The ending is pretty weak, though.

Alternately you can take the unfair route and instawin the minute you reach levels that have
ladders.
If you walk off the side of a ladder where it intersects with the ceiling, you can occasionally
get yourself stuck in the roof out of reach of every kind of zombie (since the axe ones throw
them at the ground for some reason).
Fortunately, you can still chainsaw all of them but the crawling ones, which you can dispose of
after they group up by baiting them over to the ladder.
I can usually manage to beat the game with my only purchases being the Katana ASAP to get through
the first house via jump/slash ad infinitum, and then the Chainsaw to kill every other enemy for
the rest of the game.
No barricades are needed, though if necessary you can wedge yourself into the roof in the first
level with one if your ninja-ing skills aren't up to par.
