It's a turn-based sort of thing where on your turn, you can attack or use some kind of action
depending on if you want to spare or kill the enemy. Then on their turn you have to survive their
attacks through a sort of bullet hell challenge.
It's a pretty good game imo. The Earthbound RPG element really isn't a huge part of the
experience but some of the fights are pretty fun and the game is well written.
