It's a part of the country that had a ton of automobile manufacturing plants. when those jobs
moved or were reduced the city imploded economically, which lead to huge crime rates, rampant
drug use, and the decline of residents to near a quarter of what it once was (the effects were
worse on the black communities that had no money to move away like the whites did). The movie
Only Lovers Left Alive had a ton of footage shot there, and has some great shots of just how
deserted it became.

As a person that lives 40 mins from Detroit, its not the blacks like everyone thinks its the fact
that large parts of the automotive industry left Detroit and that had a huge impact and the city
went into poverty. But the swf is still hilarious!
