Undertale was probably heavily inspired by Earthbound, especially considering Toby Fox was mostly
known for the Earthbound Halloween ROMhack (and a shitload of Homestuck music) before making it.

Its more the fact that there are like 5 or 6 other easter eggs in the game that all seem to
relate to this character, and if there is one thing fanbases love its a bunch of vague clues to

Not him, but I personally enjoy Yume Nikki, Yume 2kki, f.low etc. more than Undertale. However,
Undertale is a better game.
While I could describe Yume Nikki as an art game, I think its better just to call it an
interactive experience. I am a boring fuck, and I have clocked hundreds of hours into the
assorted works, just admiring the creativity and interesting creations of all the associated
artists, trying to uncover every little bit that is hiding below the surface.
Most people, however, want a plot and a challenge, and even if Undertale is not the most
professional of games, it does provide several hours of this type of gameplay.
However, I think its an injustice that Undertale achieved mass success and Yume Nikki achieved
cult status, while OFF, a game which I find to be a much better mesh of RPG and surrealism than
Earthbound, is virtually unknown.
That game is really worth more than its mentioned.

Well of course OFF would do Surrealism better than Undertale. Undertale doesn't (to my knowledge)
have any Surrealist themes.
