It really isn't though.
The fanbase is enormous and tons of normal anons and normies have played it.
Yes you have some truly evil cancerous SJW type people who also latched onto the game and
produced some evil shit from it and they generally hangout on reddit but thats still only a
minority of the base as a whole and they aren't exactly super difficult to avoid especially if
you don't go to those sites.
There is mountains of amazing Undertale OC that has no social or other bullshit attached to it
like great art and cool fanmade games and other shit and plenty of normal people who wanna just
talk about the actual game...
I run into UT fans on 4chan alot and I rarely run into the cancerous ones.
I mean even this flash gave me a chuckle.
Yeah its a stupid meme but its not badly done and if you don't take it seriously or already have
an inner hatred of it based off of that bad part of the base then you'd probably enjoy it to.

Well you can just google the games actual sales figures and look up other stats that will show
its enormous online presence.
That proves the popular part but really that is sort of obvious for those with some awareness of
their surroundings.
The major game sites that held polls for best game ever also have easily found results and yes
Undertale came out on top on many of them despite those sites being somewhat biased against Indie
games.

Plus, you defending this game and fanbase (which can differ from the playerbase) over this

The source of it being called cancerous is the fast explosive expansion of shallow content, and
forcing it over other well known memes, an example being this very flash.
Another example of something called cancerous, even when a large part of the fanbase has no idea
about this is that one nesting on /mlp/. Little girls like the show as intended, but that doesn't
mitigate that it is so dangerous it has a containment board here.

There is on one hand, the people who don't like UT and complain that so many people are liking it,
But a lot of people complaining about UT content being made of posted are fucking idiots who
cannot stand liking something that too many other people of different ages and communities like.
Even if they loved UT, the fact that it has a huge fanbase and developed in all directions
suddenly disgusts them. Because they can't stand not being "special" and having "special tastes".
