"Looking up at his owner, Smithers noticed... Something new in his human's eye. It took him a
moment to process it, but he realized it was... Despair. And Smithers could make neither heads
nor tails of it. But he did understand it, as far as cats can understand per sé. Smithers felt
bothered by this sadness, when he flashed back. In his eyes, he was looking at him during his
lowest moment. A mewling kitten, out on the street. No home, no hope. No milk, no food, no roof,
no human. And he stared into the distance, hopeless as he was during those days."

...and in but a fleeting moment, Mr. Whiskerkins glanced to his owner's flank, and for a brief
second caught sight of the horrid days at the end of time. Words could not describe the dead cold
that filled his soul, as that mere instant dragged on into an eternity. In his gaze was despair,
and such was within him, too.

When you really think about it in frustration, or even just try to accept it during a blank,
meditational state of thoughtless self-enlightenment, it does not take much in the end to realize
that all the plants and animals and microbes, and other living but thoughtless anomalies your
ancestors grew up with, by thinking less than you, or even by not thinking at all, still
understand more than you or even the greatest philosopher or scientist will ever comprehend. And
all the time, their silence is like laughter. For they are laughing at you for the complete fool
that you are.

The cat has seen other universes and how the other life in those universes evolved and destroyed
other species and such later on becoming a huge galactic war where planets are destroyed
everywhere causing ultimate destruction on the galaxies. When each alien race seem to have won
against other species, they only die and turn extinct later on after billions of years go by. All
of these universes the cat has seen, no species has ever gotten past at least a quadrillion
years. No hope.

This cat... this cat has seen galaxies form and dissipate, planets and empires rise and fall, and
has seen countless eyes stare up into the depths of space with unending imagination. He has seen
countless scientists strive for the knowledge of the vastness of the universe. But has seen that
the unending imagination from the minds of mortal lifeforms is far surpassed by the unending
chronicles of time and space. He has seen no hope.
