Korra has some great antagonists. Its no longer just fight against the "big "bad" that wants to
conquer the world. The conflict is much more of a moral grey.
Bad guy of the first season is a civil rights activist who wants equal rights for non-benders. He
just went Black Panther instead of MLK.
Season 2 is a naturalist who wishes to return balance to nature and allow spirits in the world.
Season 3 was a freedom fighter, who wished to remove monarchies from power and wished to remove
the avatar system allowing one person from controlling so much power.
Only season 4 kinda sucked because the bad guy was just another "big bad". Also the beautiful
chore graphical fight scenes were reduced to mech battles.

I can't speak for the last two, but the first two are only like that at first. Then, halfway
through the season, they reveal it was all an elaborate ruse and that they're really just evil
guys doing evil things because they're evil. There's no moral grey because the hack writers
always turn it around to make Korra right about everything.
The original had more moral grey just by having relatively good people on the bad guy's side for
most of the show and having Aang actually question whether he was doing the right thing instead
of just doing whatever the fuck he wanted and having it turn out to be right.

It's different, but (in my opinion) just as good. The main problem is that it's not consistent.
For example, season two is decent, but not nearly as good as Last Airbender, but seasons three
and four are phenomenal (in my opinion, better than the average ATLA episode). It has the same
Avatar charm, the same kind of tongue-in-cheek humor that the series is known for, and it does
get a little dark at times, darker than ATLA did (for example, killing people on-screen in season
three and four). I liked the pacing of LoK more, as it was divided into four completely separate
seasons, rather than a single story arc, but that's just personal preference. We also get some
new bending styles (such as Lavabending).
