He was wearing a Plate-Armor Breastplate under his clothes that had been seen earlier in the film.
He kills all these bastards and then delivers that line.
Still dies later though, as the concussive force of all those rounds would have caused enough
internal hemorrhaging

Bullets made their way through the armor because so many were shot at him. Not only the
concussive force of those blocked but the ones that pierced the armor into him, as well.
When he pulls the breastplate off after the fact you can see it's riddled with holes as well as
dents.
The fact that he was able to kill all those guys with that many wounds using nothing but knives
and swords faster than they could reload their guns is impressive to say the least.
