They are scrapping boards to cut costs of running the chan and best board (/f/) is on the
chopping block

All the boards have a chance but /f/ (in my opinion) is probably one of the more niche boards on
this site. As such if we dont manage to go unnoticed i doubt that the non /f/ goers will be as
thrilled about us remaining as we would be.

Shkreli is likely buying the site we might be all right.

Eh, I only come to /f/ on occasion due to how slow it can be sometimes, but it certainly has
always been enjoyable.
Certainly there were some dark times the the potato knishes, and the yee made this board a terror
to be on, but the diamonds in the rough were nice.

Gotta wade through the shit to get to the corn anon. Though as you said the fact remains that
this being the only non image, image board on this site does make for slower traffic but far more
memorable experiences.

If you look at https://www.4chan.org/rules#f /f/ is actually an Upload board.

He just trolls about this sort of shit all the time
After he heard some people were comparing some scummy traders to him in the Magic: The Gathering
community, he posted asking how to buy in. No intent to actually do so, but he seems to love
shitposting.

Hiro said no and Shkreli was almost definitely joking.
>>3157446
As much as I hate to admit it, /f/ will always be on the chopping block from now on because of
the push to remove Flash support from websites. I really REALLY hope Hiro doesn't remove it,
especially since it's so small that it probably has a tiny effect on bandwidth, even with the
larger filesizes.
Someone on /qa/ suggested converting all images to .webp on the server so that the amount of data
being sent out to people is drastically reduced but as far as I'm aware .webp isn't supported by
every browser.

Martin Shkreli made a comment and apparently got in contact with Horoshima about wanting to be on
the "Board of Directors", but he's a huge attention whore so it's probably him just shitposting
again.
Thing is, 4chan has deleted boards in the past and added new ones, so it's nothing big. In a
year's time, nobody would remember or miss /f/, and that's the truth. Like m00t and the olden
days of /b/, everything on 4chan is like dust in the wind.
>> [_] Anonymous 10/02/16(Sun)21:50:04 No.3157501

It would certainly be a start to .webp support.

Converting support for one website isnt a huge start to anything? Things is good, they should
stay good.
>>3157494
And you're splitting hairs here, if you want to be super technical every board is an upload board
this one just happens to specialize in a specialty format.

I still haven't seen a source for this information.
Even if they were removing some boards I doubt /f/ would come into question. It's been around for
a while, has made significant impact on 4chan culture in general, it seems easy to moderate, and
doesn't have a troublesome community. Don't really see why it would be in more danger than some
of the slower boards or the new experimental ones.
>> [_] Anonymous 10/02/16(Sun)22:12:05 No.3157518
>>3157514
I'm guessing they will remove/limit the archive, set up max image sizes, and if really needed
then axe a board or two. I'd really see /gif/ /trash/ or /hc/ going before /f/. It sucks that
we're all pretty much in the dark at this point .

>It's been around for a while
That becomes insignificant under the new moderation and ownership of 4chan. Profit is what matter
now.
>has made significant impact on 4chan culture in general
While it's made great strides in local culture, it's importance has diminished to the point where
other boards have become a greater source of shift in culture and memetics
>it seems easy to moderate, and doesn't have a troublesome community
It's a slow board, and a small one at that. While it may not cause any waves, the very fact that
it's small is reason enough to axe it when you think about cost/benefit

Eventually people have lots of .webps lying around and want to post them on websites that don't
have support for them. Those other sites eventually support them and then more people are using
webps.

So what other board should be deleted in order to make another small niche format board? I
personally think having both /r9k/ and /pol/ is a bit redundant as i remember when they were both
one in the same and still functioned about as well as they do now.

Except it wouldn't provide enough benefit. It's like trying to stop a man with an amputated arm
from bleeding out with a bandaid.

I thought you read the same thread? That guy was suggesting to just switch all image formats over
to .webps and provide some mass information on how to convert the images you already have over to
them.
They are surprisingly small for the same things that a .jpg or .png can accomplish.

When you're looking to maximize profit you cut corners wherever you can.
If getting rid of /f/, which nobody would miss (except me ; ^ ; ), means more money for the
upkeep of other boards then it might happen.
It's less stopping bleeding with a band-aid, and more a "sucking up the last bit of soda in the
cup with a straw" sort of meme.

I think you misunderstood the suggestion. It was to convert every image on every board to .webp
