Fun fact: During the renaissance, the reigning Pope issued a decree that no Christian be allowed
to levy interest at an exorbitant rate (a la usury). This decree effectively made it so that
banks were completely unprofitable for Christians, so Jews, whom didn't have any such religious

Around the same time, also, the black plague was ravaging Europe, so with the already existing
suspicious tone towards Jews for their banking practices, Jews were effectively blamed for
