  Goku is portrayed as having plenty of intelligence and common sense.
  He even gains the sage like ability to read peoples minds & memories by touching their heads and
  can immediately put together exactly what has happened and what the current situation is.
  He can also easily think of plans for what to do in tough situations when his friends, planets
  and others are at risk.
  And while also not portrayed as serious or stoic ala Vegeta he is portrayed with some seriousness
  and isn't made out to be a clown constantly making a fool of himself ala DBZ Super.

  So you're wrong.
  Goku wasn't portrayed as being dumb at all in DB or DBZ.

  And this change of character has effected all the DBZ super characters.
  Their once diverse personality's have been whittled down and they've all been dumbed down and
  made into unserious sit-com style characters.

  Goku is simply not portrayed as being dumb, nor does he really understand or have interest in
  comedy. He is rarely portrayed as being clownish in a self-depreciating type tone in the series.
  He is not the dumb "punch jockey" as DBZ super would often have you believe.
  He is portrayed as a good hearted/simple and sometimes naive warrior/farmboy but with a strong
  mind/spirit and reasonably quit wits about him. Street smart might be the right term. He's not
  gonna get lost on the way home from the grocery store or drown himself in the fucking bathtub.

  The way he is portrayed in Super is nothing like his old character.
  But we can agree to disagree, thats fine.
