Overwatch is really not a very good game. I really tried to like it, but it's one of those games
that intentionally gives every player an excuse as to why they didn't do well.
Are the days gone where we pit player against player on even ground to see who is better? What
happened to Quake 3 arena? What happened to Unreal Tournament?

Now now, if your going to be nostalgic, at least whine about a decent bygone FPS like Starseige
Tribes.

Tribes was later, and Tribes was awesome.
I just mean the whole "select a class, so later you can blame your loss on your team" has really
ruined shooters for me.

You know i have heard that McCree is an Apache Helicopter. Ever since Tracer came out people
everywhere have been standing up to fight for McCree. The people at Blizzard, they don't
understand, they are just corporate people working in a corporate world. But we know. We live in
a time where hate and fear seem stronger but we know that love is love is love is love is love is
love is love is love, cannot be killed or swept aside.

Q3 and UT were released in late 1999. Tribes was '98, though most people didn't discover tribes
until the rise of broadband.
Q3 and UT really ought to have integrated jump-jets, even if the maps were too small for sking.
Tribes did somewhat suffer from a less than balanced class system, but unlike OW, the modding
community quickly corrected the unbalances to the point that even the official servers were
majority modded-servers.
Are there any modern FPSs that support 128 players? Its been ages since I've played a game with a
server that really felt genuinely full.

My mistake, I suppose I just discovered Tribes later.
regardless, I still believe the "class" and "perks" have ruined shooters. They used to be
unashamed competition. He who was better succeeded, but they add complications, and as a result
people have ways to wiggle out of their loss.
MOBAs are the explicit result of this.

> people have ways to wiggle out of their loss
That's a problem with player-base, not necessarily the game. stick to casual clans/teams that
know how to take a loss graciously, and you'll find a much better experience.
That's another benefit of the classics. The few die-hards still playing Q3A, Tribes, Shogo MAD or
even Mechwarrior 3 these days have been around so long they've seen it all, and take losing as
part of the game. retro-online-gamer's have to actively seek out remnant communities and form
closer bonds in order to keep their hobby going. The "communities" for modern releases like
Overwatch are staggeringly artificial; its less about camaraderie and more about showing off your
badges and unlockables.
