Nice twist on the theme.
I've been glued to the Cassini news the past few hours. Some good footage from the final few
passes through the atmosphere.
What I can't figure, is they crashed it to preserve the Saturnian moons, yet they landed the
Huygens probe on Titan....

This is more dramatic tho
>probably something to do with never building in any way to land it and/or the lack of fuel

I think they should have left it in orbit. One day we could have retrieved it.

they were principally concerned about it crashing into one of the moons and possibly
contaminating them with terrestrial bacteria.

Reminds me of Epicurus' Tetrapharmakos
It comes in 4 (tetra) parts that remedy (pharmak) pain of life.
>1 Do not fear God
>2 Do not worry about Death
>3 What is good is easy to get
>4 What is terrible is easy to endure
The good things in life are simple and easy to obtain. The bad things in life are short and
diminish quickly: if they are chronic then you can learn to handle/subdue the pain: if the pain
is too severe, you will die/suicide and end the pain.

It was really was just the finding that enceladus had cryovolcanos making is a huge candidate for
life to be formed there. Huygens was worth the risk to see what was under its atmosphere and the
potential for life was minimal there.
It also makes us good solar citizens by not leaving debris floating in the void. Its why all the
missions to asteroids have ended with landing on it, and to also show off the teams piloting
skills.

There is no (meaningful) terminal velocity in space. However, if you're considering the terminal
velocity in Saturn's atmosphere, it depends on your reference altitude, meaning the craft is
either below or above (or theoretically at) terminal velocity.
Of course, once the craft is in the atmosphere then it can have a meaningful terminal velocity.
And while I haven't done the maths, I would guess that the craft would be well above terminal
velocity all the way up to the point where it's torn apart.
Therefore I cannot enjoy this flash.
