So what's the best way to make a gif out of a video? Or rather how do I perfect flv so it doesn't
lose all of the quality? Do I even have to use flv or is there a different video format that's
applicable in flash?
I finally kicked myself into recording this clip but the flv at the highest bitrate (10000kbps
with Adobe Media Encoder) looks only slightly better than what's in this flash.

try
video record>export as jpeg sequence to photoshop> import as sequence> save to web(as gif)>
import gif to flash

I should to mention that the original mp4 is in 60fps and has 156 frames total and when I convert
it to gif via whatever method it takes way too much space
the original mp4 I recorded has only 2.7MB

yeah i tried it after posting and It turned out both too big(14-15mb) and not too good quality.
next i tried.
loseless video(3gb)>media encoder to FLV(3000kb), which outputted a 4mb file in what i think is
decent quality at 1920x1080.

4mb FLV output at 60fps 3000kb/s: http://i.imgur.com/wUoBcKm.png
If you would post the video you're trying to convert I might be able to help you more. Seems
strange that your clip would lose that much quality in the conversion process.

only thing that comes to mind is to sacrifice fps but I'm fed up with cutting corners when it's
clear that it will fit but not as an mp4. I was thinking of using ffmpeg but I'm clueless on how
to do that

The best thing to do would probably be to shoot for a lower FPS as well as try to record the
initial file in the best resolution/quality you can.
Pixel art can get really tricky if you record with a screen recorder as it produces that kind of
smushed pixels look, which really isn't too desirable and will make the filesize shoot up when
converting to PNG or GIF due to the pixels being "unclean" which means that instead of a brick on
the wall having 2 brown colours they get like 4 or more instead due to the "destructive" format
its in(JPEG or whatever), i think...
The best format for pixel art is PNG or GIF due to its non-destructive format.
If your source is the 640x480 mp4 file then making the pixels look "clean" at the size it plays
in browser will be nigh impossible.

I'm trying ffmpeg but flash doesn't play well with .h264 codec, I only see a black box after
importing it
