They do influence damage, but the effect isn't really noticeable if you have a low attack power
weapon or a low attack modifier on your AMU, and you'll probably be using the regenerating AMU
once you get it, which has the worst modifier of them all.
I find dumping points into buying better Missiles and upgrading Attack leads to some almost
hilarious damage later on. The Loki AMU is so broken at max attack that you can often get
back-to-back 200k chains in one overdrive, which lets you use another overdrive, which lets you
use another overdrive, etc.
Also, complete mission 19 with the starting weapon to unlock one of the overpowered extra
weapons- I find this the easiest to get, if you actually know how to get it.
