Is anyone here even old enough to remember when Charles Schulz died? It was the day that the last
strip of Peanuts was ran as well. Maybe it's because I'm from the Twin Cities and grew up with
Charlie Brown and the others, but it just felt so sad. Like losing a grandparent, almost.

I was only four when he died but later grew to really enjoy the strip. Childhood is usually
idealized, but Schultz remembered that being a kid, especially an unpopular neurotic one, was
full of anxieties and little day-to-day mishaps that could seem like the end of the world.
Unlike the never-ending Garfield, Schultz spent all 50 years drawing Peanuts himself and really
enjoying it. I think his widow said something to the effect of, "he never retired because he
couldn't live without drawing, and when he couldn't draw anymore he died."
