I remember having similar problems emulating FFX, where sometimes the middle party member would
be facing backwards, or the boss would be backwards, and party members wouldn't be able to
complete their attacks because they ran "forwards" away from the monster and never got there
So my guess is either bad emulation settings or a cheat code that results in a similar glitch
