An article I read some time ago defended that the enjoyement women get from yaoi stems from their
desire to partake into a relationship were power roles are not predefined as they are in common
heterosexual ones, since that leaves room for much more varied and subtle developments. It
follows then that the power dynamics have to be worked from the ground-up into each and every
story, and whether the autor wants to be clear, passionate or simply lazy, there's no more better
way of letting the reader know who the top and who the bottom is than through physical violence.
