That's bad advice, EoSD is one of the hardest games in the series and the lack of visible hitbox
can confuse beginners

6 is the one with the most fan content but it's a fucking ugly game while 7 is vidya kino

Play 7, Perfect Cherry Blossom. It's got only the basic frills of Touhou without any of the
wackier experimental stuff and minimal gimmicks that show up in much bigger ways in the later
games, and has a good blend of moderate difficulty and beauty.
6 (Embodiment of Scarlet Devil) is too unpolished.
7 (Perfect Cherry Blossom) is great.
8 (Imperishable Night) is good, but a bit too easy mode.
9 (Phantasmagoria of Flower View) is a vs game, pretty different than normal touhous
10 (Mountain of Faith) is too basic. All bombs are the same, what the heck? It's also a good
starting difficulty point but I don't like it as much.
11 (Subterranean Animism) is too hard (if I see that fucking cat one more time). I like it but
it'd be a frustrating entry point to the series.
12 (Undefined Fantastic Object) UFO gimmicks.
13 (Ten Desires) is also solid
but really just start from PCB, do IN, go back to EoSD, then carry on with whichever order you
want.
