i don't give money to valve since they tried to destroy modding in 2015. here's a good breakdown:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emW15aLYbp4
i also dislike how valve push gambling on children and how the whole marketplace works with
expensive and (artificially) rare JPG images for guns. they take unreasonable percentages from
developers and implement some really shady deals for community-created items (for example i read
that if you get a dota 2 skin in a "loot box" the creator of that skin earns no money at all
because it wasn't a direct buy, but of course valve earns money).
valve have become too big, luckily there's now much needed competition with Epic Games although
they are fighting an uphill battle due to fanboys squealing about not wanting multiple launchers
and basically not giving a fuck about anything except themselves (turning a blind eye to all the
bad stuff valve has done).
GoG is awesome but they couldn't really compete with Steam since they have standalone installers
and no DRM. i certainly hope that never changes with GoG but it makes game companies not not
wanting to release over there until several years after initial launch. so it's great that Epic
Games comes along and offers an alternative.
