i just read his story at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_A._Davis
he was 27 when he started experiencing regular manic episodes. crazy how things like that can
just begin later in life. he died at 48 so he went a little over half his life without being
insane. though i assume there were signs if you knew to look for them.
