that's just the way japanese works
you gotta listen to the language and not read the translations to get that
in japanese there is little way to anticipate a joke like there is in most roman based languages
like english
in order to even make a non visual joke you gotta say a normal sentence first and then add an
explanation to make the listener regard that sentence in a very specific kind of way without
context, so that is becomes a joke
even simple puns are more like mind puzzles and less like "baddumtiss" most of the time
