[_] SWF WIKI yay or nay? Anonymous 10/25/21(Mon)11:14:23 No.3474979
So yeah here is a game form a dead site,
some versions of this game broke when the site went offline, works offline but sometimes it can
be a trick to get this to run
there are tricks to get around this but just better to post this version.
its /f/fren day on the 10th and happy birthday XP btw.
so i thought about making a wiki for old swfs, torrents of flash collections and a litle blurb
about who made them/ how to run the more complex flash files/the files you need to get it to work
as well etc.
maybe get the ruffle guys and lost media wiki on board too?

do it

This would be epic if done right.

Isn't this just called swfchan?
What would this do that swfchan doesn't already have the infrastructure in place to support?

>>3474979
That sounds like a neat idea but I don't have the bandwidth or money to host :|

this
I believe this is already done with swfchan

Ive got a website but there is a limit to how many files i can have though i could probably just
upgrade my hosting plan
>>3474990

Its not a competitor to swfchan,
Archive.org and swfchan are the 2 most important sites for flash today
the idea is more to document who made the flashes, where they came from
take for example 2 chan flashes like Kikkoman, Saitama, Shii etc
When i posted some of the ones i had they were added to swfchan as new items despite being nearly
2 decades old
could have a gallery and a bit of info about where you can find the original tripod/geocites
sites on archive.org
Lots of people trying to download all the files maybe some system for comparing torrents of flash
and such.
if a wiki was properly built we could have a search engine
we had a talk about this yesterday
https://archive.4plebs.org/f/thread/3474881
>>3474963
What flash really needs is a search engine. The whole reason why flash fell is because of
attempted murder. A proper search engine would help a lot.
could also chat on dagobah
how about this, i whip up some concept art showing how the site would function and have it ready
for the next /f/ren day

>>3474997
a more detailed swf site would be good yes, make sure you have a link on where to get them if
possible eg "play here insert swfchan link"

The plan is to list all sites carrying the file,
To accomplish this you would need to have databases of what exactly is stored on flash archives.
So a list of filenames and sizes + other technical information unique to that file
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_verification
so this database system would be the engine of the wiki
next would be a system to categorise things
I would have a bot create a list of files that are probably random youtube rips so that can all
be put to the back of the line and we can get lists of actual flash files to sort through
Most of those are made with the same templates so they could be detected by machine,
Not even by looking at the actual file but just by looking at the info swfchan lists about it.
Maybe get a random collection of files every day and have users comment to say what’s there.

Just a quick technical note most of the cheap web hosting plans have Inode(file) limits for
example 250000 files even if they are tiny files.
Dagobah has 13’764 files on its sfw site Swfchan has over 2 million files,
but dont just count the swf file
You have the html file, the thumbnail and the actual file as well as the software that generates
pages and its cache so those sites use at least 3x those number of Inodes
Might have to change host/start a new website for this to be viable
The difference is like $2 - $7 a month for something witch can only have 250000 files
To $12 - $30 a month for the higher tier plans that let you have millions of files.
That makes this quite expensive so I probably will have to put some advertising there to recoup
the cost
Also the UK is pretty retarded and tries to make foreign companies register with uk tax offices
to sell products to UK residents.
I’m not talking about simply collecting the tax, they basically want you to make an account with
HMRC (UK version of the IRS) and get a VAT number even if its just a one off thing.
I live in Shetland
Looking at hosts that have a cheap plan but with the big file allowance
I would crunch the numbers for what it would take to list 3 million files in a database to make
sure the software wont max out my hosting plan and paralyze

alright 11 replies 9 posters.
guess i will whip up some concept art,
talk to a few web hosting companies about that technical obstacle >>3475003
>node(file) limits for example 250000 files even if they are tiny file
i might get a freelancer to help put it together
anyway when the thread dies you can talk to me on Dagobah.net/comments/
just pick a flash on the site and we can chat there too making an account is optional

You guys know about Flashpoint, right? I guess that's just games, though.

flashpoint, LumpyCustard and Exceed2020 both have the trick to bypass site locked flashes dont
they.
LC skips frames to bypass site lock
E2020 loads the plugin and emulates functions of the browser to serve flash files and redirects
to backups
Fp tricks the flash projector into thinking its downloaded the file from its original site.

You guys know about VNanashi's flash torrent right?

Thread's been bumped for 317 days now (don't post too much in it so it hits the bump limit too
quickly, which is 300, just post in it if it's on page 9 or 10).
GET 1000000 is a link to http://swfchan.com/end/ in that thread.

These are the magnets (the original one in the thread shouldn't be used):

yes,
i think some tracking for torrents should be a feature of the wiki but i would wait until we got
a few regular users.
i would pend that until a system for methodically cataloging items, you do need more than one
person to manage an undertaking like that.
maybe list whats on torrent trackers and match files in there to their hash or something
