welcome the the NHK, its also a mange and a book, the anime is the lightest version, the manga is
a bit darker, and the book darker still. its the same but small details are changed that impact
how the characters and their actions are going to be perceived.

true, but I'd say the book isn't neccissarily darker as much as it is more nihilistic
Book = the original minimalistic story where everyone is a wrack of a human being
Manga = the prolonged pessimistic story where everyone is a caricature of a human being
Anime = the enshortened romantic version where everyone is part of a conspiracy to bring my life
ever more close to the brink of absolute despair and apathy
