Back in the day video codecs were just two bytes and an flv container.

what do you mean back in the day? its still flv only
i have identical swf with the same quality yet it takes 1.5mb,
actually i checked archives and someone in 2009 asked "why is this file so huge?"
back in the day he says. i played flash games 20 years ago and i know it was taking forever to
download 6mb files

H264 in flv hasn't been possible for the longest time
codecs evolve with time and yield better results with less filesize
sure, doesn't mean OP couldn't have been just using ass parameters
but videos as a whole were a lot bigger back then if you wanted the same resolution and quality
as of today
