The entire point of this scene, from a catholic point of view, is that virtually every word he
says is thinly veiled heresy fueled by his lust. His statement about the devil being stronger
than man is made to place the blame for his failings on God, rather than admitting that his evil
comes from within. His lust turns him evil, and his own pride keeps him from admitting it,
causing him to place the blame with God, the only power more universal within the church.
