It was hyped up a lot if I recall correctly. The voicework was also renowned. More importantly is
the fact it constantly mentions and has ties to other anime (especially melancholy of haruhi
suzumiya) It also has a lot of japanese specific puns and caters to otaku.
I'd imagine that otaku are the people who take the time out of their lives to make these videos.
