I meant it as arcade games has no story thus no ending so you can play them forever to get the highest score, which is their only purpose. >> [_] Anon 3275755 >># Bruh, lots of arcade games have proper ends with a special screen that's been programmed in for when you hit an arbitrary level or a certain score. But some of them just have what's referred to as a "kill screen", like PacMan, wherein you simply cannot progress any further because the hardware has completely run out of memory and starts wigging out. >> [_] Anon 3275799 I had a PacMan arcade game. Yes, it topped out at 256 levels. (not)interesting factoid: it was a simple Z80 computer with a manual and circuit schematic inside the chassis. (less)interesting anecdote: as a kid, I'd break into the back of the PacMan machine at the marina where my parents had their boat, I'd set the DIP switches to FREE CREDITS (no coin needed, just press the start button), and 256 lives per game (these were legit options). Good times, until one of my rat 'friends' dimed me out and I got banned from the boathouse. I also used to glitch the Galaga machine at the local arcade; if you're patient, the last leftmost 3 ships on the second level would run out of bullets for 5 cycles, at which point you blast them and continue without enemy ships firing at all. I'd play for 6 hours or more on a single quarter. Totally pissed off the management.
