the previous comments cant be real
op: jumping wouldn't work. even if it did you wouldnt know when to jump. also if it did work and
you knew the time to jump you would still get crushed by the roof of the elevator, or parts of it.
urban legend i believe its called

have you ever experienced the feeling of falling in an elevator? have you ever tried it?
how fast is the elevator falling? how far?
you just don't know.
i will try it next time my elevator falls

Mythbusters said it doesn't work and Mythbusters can't be wrong.

awesome logic.
so because myth busters says so, the next time you're falling in an elavator, the only way to get
out with your life is to just stand still and wait to hit the ground.
solution: if you're standing on ground that is falling down to the ground, jump off of the ground
that is falling before it touches the ground and you will survive.
>> [_] Anonymous 02/25/09(Wed)23:42 No.907183
Anyone who thinks this works is fucking moronic and doesn't seem to understand physics. The
elevator falling also has you falling at the same rate as the elevator. If you jump you are
merely decreasing your velocity by around 3 kilometers per hour, which is nothing compared to the
rate the elevator is falling.
Your jump is RELATIVE to the speed the elevator is falling at. This is like saying if you ran on
top of a train going the opposite direction it was traveling at you could stay in the "same
spot". This is TRUE if you can run FAST ENOUGH, but no human could do it realistically.
The same is true for the elevator, if you could jump with enough force to completely neutralize
the speed you're traveling at it would work, but no human could.

>>907170
that is bullshit if you jump before it slams into the ground you will hit the top of the vator
and either die or survive but then youll fall from that still at a fast speed I may add and that
will be your death plus the evelvator crushing itself. Sure jumping may give you a sense that you
may live but in the end its just fucking pointless. Maybe actually think and get your ass out of
the elevator through the top and possibly jump off and grab the other cable or walls if they have
ledges and try to save yourself that way
>> [_] Anonymous 02/25/09(Wed)23:52 No.907196
Elevators have a retarded amount of safety. I think they have 4-6 cables supporting them, each is
capable of supporting the whole elevator alone. Even if ALL cables somehow break it has a a
speedometer of sorts that detects if it's descending at too rapid a velocity. If that's the case
it has big ass metal claws which release and dig into the wall halting or severely slowing the
descent.

>> [_] Anonymous 02/26/09(Thu)00:11 No.907224
I think you're all wrong. If you're in a falling elevator, you're probably ALREADY stuck to the
ceiling, in which case jumping at 3 KPH INCREASES the impact speed by 3 KPH
>> [_] Anonymous 02/26/09(Thu)00:16 No.907236
I think the real question here is if the elevator were falling while attached to a plane on a
treadmill, WILL IT TAKE OFF?
>> [_] Anonymous 02/26/09(Thu)00:30 No.907243
Your dick would still be on the floor, so it would take full impact causing you to bust a nut.

Apparently some twelve year old future high school dropout discovered 4chan tonight, has mistaken
bloody minded persistence in the face of abject failure for skilled trolling, and is up way past
his bed time.
Disregard that, I suck cocks
>> [_] Anonymous 02/26/09(Thu)01:26 No.907282
I actually heard that the best option is to lay flat on the floor. The impact will be distributed
more evenly throughout your body, reducing the chance of breaking bones. However, if you're ever
in a falling elevator, and you DO survive somehow, have fun waiting until they manage to rescue
you.

The flash was horrible.
HOWEVER...
The pointless and excessively drawn out argument regarding it is lol-inspiring. Do continue.

You'd stick to the ceiling maaaaybe if the ceiling and the floor were thoroughly perforated,
however this is likely not the case for your run-of-the-mill elevator. With no air resistance
acting on you and slight resistance on the elevator assuming it isn't in another falling
elevator, you'd be nearly weightless and then you'd be dead, unless you were in an elevator shaft
in which case see various other posts for safety features. Some also have spring analogues and
air compression chambers at the bottom to reduce the acceleration.
